Cross-border issues are on the rise and require therefore an international approach. Environmental issues, organised crime, respect for human rights, international trade, to name a few. As a consequence, the search for specialists in the various fields is on the rise as well. This one-year, business-oriented programme will offer you a very practical preparation for your future career. The first semester will be completely dedicated to guest lectures by specialists employed in the field. During the second semester, you will develop a project in a company or another legal working environment in Belgium or abroad, while being coached by your personal Leuven University College mentor. If you are looking for a project abroad, you can consult our database by sending an email to hilde.evers@khleuven.be. If you find a project in Europe, you can even apply for an Erasmus grant by sending an email to carina.saelen@khleuven.be.
You have obtained a bachelor's degree in paralegal practice or have acquired relevant experience. Yet, you want to further explore how laws are applied in an international environment. Improving your management skills and practical experience equally appeal to you. The ideal solution: interactive guest lectures, your own project, company visits, an international business case competition and professional skills training.
The programme offers strategic and international management and professional skills which will refine your general management skills.
In addition, the programme will focus on specific legal fields with an international dimension, such as international criminal law, human rights, international relations, environmental law and international private law.
In order to put all this knowledge into practice, you will develop a project during the second semester. You will choose a law-related workplace and you will determine the goals and planning of your project in collaboration with the workplace. At the end of the academic year, you will defend your project's paper before a jury of professionals.
This advanced bachelor's degree will give you a head start on the labour market. Creative thinking and a sense of initiative are often essential in the hiring process. Thanks to this programme, you will be able to offer these invaluable assets. Because you have acquired knowledge about general, strategic and international management, you have a better chance of being hired as a manager. Through your specialist programme and the acquired practice experience during the course of your project, you will be ready for a successful career in a legal environment.
After having obtained your advanced bachelor's degree, you will have the opportunity to pursue a master's degree (LL.M.) in International Law or International Business Law through a partnership between Leuven University College and Coventry University (UK). You will not need to do a bridge programme and you will have a number of exemptions. This additional degree will enhance your career opportunities even more, especially in an international environment.
