  • Social justice issues, social action and social policymaking
  • Advisory and independent advocacy services and administration of social justice

Is this programme right for you?

Are you looking for a strong study option? Then Social Work and Legal Aid is the right choice for you.

  • As a counsellor for opportunity groups, you deal with people at vulnerable moments in their life.
  • As a social policymaker, you can help to shape social change, and you look for solutions to concrete social issues.
  • As an advisor or independent advocate, you are right in the thick of things, supplying social legal aid. You assist people in asserting their rights.

What will you learn? What choices can you make?

You are choosing a broad-based, multifaceted programme. Social Work and Legal Aid calls for specific expertise. Besides a general foundation that we provide throughout the programme, you choose the profile and area that appeals to you most.
You choose a tailor-made work placement. You also have the opportunity to implement concrete projects linked to this placement.
In addition, you can study optional subjects within the programme in your second and third years. This is the final element of your tailor-made course.

Where can you work?

Practical experience shows us that social policymakers and social administrators find work quickly and easily in an improving job market. We come across graduates who are:

  • route counsellors or managers in social economy projects, community services and job placement.
  • social policymakers or employees in local government, umbrella organisations, government offices, trade unions, North-South work.
  • social advisors or counsellors in numerous authorities that administer social justice, or counsels working for bodies that provide legal services.

Want to continue studying?

The Social Work and Legal Aid option is a solid building block for postgraduate studies. This is evident from the extremely high pass rates achieved by graduates of this course. They choose continuing study courses such as the Master's degree in Social Work and Social Policy, Political and Social Sciences or Law. Community counselling also focuses heavily on international and global issues. Many students therefore choose a continuing study course at Leuven University College, such as the postgraduate certificate in International North-South Co-operation.
