You can follow a short-track programme to obtain the Primary Education bachelor degree, depending on your study or work history. The length of the course is determined on the basis of the exemptions you have gained from your previous training. And/or via an EVC procedure (accreditation of prior experiential learning), which establishes your work experience and competences. There are four possibilities:
You can follow the short-track programme in daytime classes or during evenings, weekends and holidays:
Do you want to follow the short-track programme during the day? Then you can study at our campus in Diest. You then participate in the full-time day programme, so it is not possible to combine your studies with a job. Students with a bachelor degree in education can complete this course in one year. Students with another bachelor degree (other than teacher training) follow a two-year course.
If you wish to combine (part-time) work and study with the short-track programme, you can follow the evening, weekend and holiday programme run by the campus in Heverlee. The lessons in Heverlee take place on:
The number of lessons in Heverlee is deliberately kept quite small. We therefore recommend that you plan at least two self-study days per week.
You acquire the necessary knowledge of all areas of learning relevant to primary school education. As well as topics that go beyond these areas. The organisation of your work placement depends entirely on your previous training. For example, it may be spread over two years – for students without teaching experience – or may comprise three work placement periods in one year for students with teaching experience.
For students attending the daytime classes in Diest, there are examination periods in January and June. Resits can be taken in August/September if required. In Heverlee, the written and oral examinations are organised during the Christmas holiday, the Easter holiday and in June.
