As a pre-primary teacher, you are the first person a child encounters in his or her school career. The 'Miss' or 'Sir' who supports those young children in taking their first steps in the big wide world (of education). This course equips you to fulfil that task.
Do you enjoy working with very young children? And are you willing to immerse yourself in their world? Do you want to know more about them? Support them in their development? Do you strongly believe that every child must be given equal opportunities? Are you creative and playful? Do you enjoy co-operating and do you have an open view of the world?
Then a career as a pre-primary teacher is for you.
The course is very practical and experience-oriented. From the start, you work with young children. You explore the fascinating world of pre-primary children and pre-primary education. You also go deeper into backgrounds and skills that are important for every teacher. You are continually challenged to work actively on your personal growth, on the basis of your interests and future dreams. As a result, you gradually develop your own style in your dealings with pre-primary children. You learn to perform the specific tasks of a pre-primary teacher.
As a class teacher in a primary school you are responsible for a group of pre-primary children between the ages of 2½ and 5. But you can also be their P.E. teacher. Take on the role of care assistant, or support pre-primary children who speak different languages. You can work in all sorts of project areas, e.g. ICT and foreign languages.
Outside education, you can work in out-of-school care or for the Jeugddienst (youth service). Or as an education assistant in socio-cultural organisations or museums, in a responsible role in day care centres etc.
Within Leuven University College, the advanced bachelor Special Needs Education provides you with the necessary expertise to work in this sector. You can also obtain other diplomas via a short-track programme, e.g. bachelor degrees in Primary Education or Social Work and Welfare Studies.
Or you can opt for one of our postgraduate certificates: A School for Everyone, Mentor of Introductory Coaching and Work Placement Coaching, Process-Oriented Leadership or Agogic Theological Work.
With your internationally recognised diploma, you can also move on to a master's course in Belgium or abroad.
