Nutrition and Dietetics

Nutrition and Dietetics (in Dutch only)

After obtaining this diploma, you are an expert in two fields: nutrition and diet. You can apply the results of scientific research and recommendations in the field of nutrition, translating them into practical advice for consumer and professional groups that deal with nutrition and/or health. You can support patients/clients and motivate them to change their eating habits.

Is this programme right for you?

Do you have an interest in nutrition? Are you good with your hands? Do you work with a high level of organisation and precision, and do you have an eye for hygiene and safety? Do you have good social skills and can you motivate people? Do you take responsibility and can you work independently? Then this programme's right for you.

What will you learn? What choices can you make?

In semesters one and two, you primarily acquire scientific knowledge about food and food preparation, which you apply immediately to examples from the field.
In semesters three and four, we study the different aspects of nutrition in depth, paying attention to the needs of a number of target groups, e.g. the elderly.
In semesters five and six, we expand further on the theoretical subjects. There are work placements in a variety of environments, where you translate the knowledge you have acquired into practical solutions and decisions. And you complete a dissertation.

Where can you work?

You can find a job in health care, e.g. in a hospital or care home, where you give dietary advice to patients. Or you start out as an independent dietitian, working with a doctor who refers patients to you. In sports or fitness organisations, you can give advice on optimum nutrition. You can also find work in the food industry, where you help to develop new products, or in catering. You can also assist with food aid programmes as part of development aid.
