Option in Chemistry

What is the bachelor degree in Chemistry: Chemistry?

As a student, you first gain a scientific foundation and study a variety of chemistry programme elements. In the option in Chemistry you then go deeper into the synthesis, analysis and characterisation of chemical compounds. You also learn about the applications of nanoparticles in industrial processes, medicine and sustainable technology.

Is this programme right for you?

You're interested in exact sciences and are practically minded. You can think analytically, enjoy solving problems and want to verify the quality of a product. You do this meticulously and with a critical attitude.
You're a team player but you also work independently. You're also open to current topics such as green chemistry, the environment and sustainable technology.
You want to help to develop products that can cure people. Products that improve the quality of life. Or that are sustainable, stronger and cheaper.

What will you learn? What choices can you make?

After studying the common foundation elements, in semester 4 you get a taster of your final study option. You specialise in your choice in semesters 5 and 6. Within a number of programme elements, you also get the chance to go deeper into your own areas of interest.

You become a professional in analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and materials science. Once you have gained the necessary competence, you complete your dissertation in an industrial lab of your choice. Or in one of KULeuven's leading laboratories.

Where can you work?

With a bachelor degree in chemistry, you are in great demand in the job market. All doors are open to you in the various chemical sectors.
A chemist works primarily in the following domains: polymer chemistry, pharmaceutical industry, petrochemistry, basic chemicals and microelectronics.
And in your future job, you'll certainly get an opportunity to make international contacts.
