The bachelor degree in biomedical laboratory technology has two study options. The option in pharmaceutical and biological laboratory techniques (FBT) centres on supporting scientific research within the biomedical and pharmaceutical sector.
You're fascinated by science, by the biochemical aspects of life. Structuring your study material and assimilating it with insight is not a problem for you. You work with a high level of organisation and precision and are good with your hands. You have a sense of responsibility and an eye for hygiene and safety. In short, you strive for quality in everything you do. Working in a team is something you enjoy. But you're also able to complete assignments successfully on your own.
Initially, you receive a broad, basic grounding in science: chemistry, biology and physics. In the second year, you choose an option that matches your personal interest.
You're trained in pharmaceutical and biological laboratory techniques. You learn to support research into molecular biology, cell and tissue culture, histology, applied microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical technology and toxicology. Diverse fields that demonstrate the multifaceted nature of the programme.
As a graduate, you can work in university and government research laboratories. You collaborate on biotechnological or pharmaceutical research. You can also get a job in industry. Together with colleagues, you work on new developments within biotechnological or pharmaceutical research fields. Or within pharmaceutical quality control.
You can also work in a (hospital) pharmacy. Or you may choose a technical sales role in a pharmaceutical or biomedical firm.
