The Department of Teacher Training (in both Heverlee and Diest) prepares teachers of the future for jobs in education. Both campuses offer a range of programme elements for bachelor degrees in Pre-primary Education and Primary Education. Students aiming to become teachers in secondary education study in Heverlee. Within our department, you can also continue studying: via the advanced bachelor in Special Needs Education, or various postgraduate certificates. It is also possible to complete the course via a short-track programme.
In our department, you'll find more than a thousand students, all inspired by one dream: to stand in front of a class, working with children. Individual support from dedicated lecturers, a broad-based education, subjects at the appropriate level, practice and variety are important reasons why students choose our courses. All students can follow their own learning path, depending on their competences and the diplomas they have obtained. The student-friendly environment in our new, modern building, the personal approach, the large number of work placements and projects and the quality of the education are also important assets. The Department of Teacher Training has numerous partnership agreements in the world of education and with industry. Partnerships with primary schools throughout the region ensure that our students in Heverlee and Diest receive the right support during their work placements. And secondary schools throughout Flanders are happy to turn to our teachers in training.
The department also collaborates with a large number of international colleges and universities. We are also a member of the School of Education within the K.U.Leuven Association, an expertise network of 21 teacher training courses.
